Natural gas pipeline explosions caused a fire at a Lewis Energy Group facility in South Texas early Friday morning, causing school cancellations, according to several reports.

The explosions occurred in Encinal, Texas, a small city in La Salle County with an estimated population of 579 in 2013, according to the United States Census Bureau.

A release from Lewis Energy Group – which has corporate headquarters in San Antonio – was posted on the La Salle County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page Friday around 11 a.m. It stated the sheriff’s office was currently investigating the cause of the incident and that no injuries had been reported.

“Local fire and police are monitoring the situation and all precautions are being taken to protect the safety of residents of the Encinal community. Lewis Energy Group is undertaking appropriate efforts to extinguish the fire,” the release said.

According to the Cotulla Independent School District’s website, Encinal Elementary School was closed Friday due to the fire.
